Gate leading to open fell – unimpeded passage now restored since AW wrote his Clints Crags chapter

in the The Outlying Fells of Lakeland (no gymnastics training required!!)

Overlooking the village of Blindcrake towards the coastal plain and the Solway Firth

Looking back to the summit of Clints Crags after making a very hasty traverse

due to the cows making what I thought was a more than friendly approach

Looking towards the northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake and the Skiddaw massif (left) from the limestone escarpmant of Clints Crags

The view north includes Criffel across the Solway Firth

The environs of Thackray Cottage - now a ruin

Looking east to Binsey and the western Northern Fells

The search for Willie White's Well abandoned due to another friendly (?) gathering barring the way

The return route passes through pleasant parkland
