Route Map

Great Gable from just above Burnthwaite Farm – the layer of cloud was persistant and would remain for the duration of today's walk.

The meeting of Lingmell Beck and Gable Beck.

Yewbarrow and Red Pike over Lingmell Beck.

Crossing the base of Greta Gill that runs between the deep ravines separating Stand Crag and Criscliffe Knotts.

Chinook heading towards Sty Head.

Looking up the lower section of Piers Gill - there was to be no picture looking down from the upper section due to heavy cloud cover.

The extent of the cloud can be gauged from this view across to Sty Head

(it was not long after this shot that I had my head in the clouds so to speak).

Due to continuing poor visibility I decided to abort Lingmell summit at Lingmell Col and back-tracked to the top of Piers

Gill and continued to descend via the Corridor Route - this view is looking down to the meeting of Greta Gill and Piers Gill.

The lower section of Piers Gill

(part of the path followed earlier can be seen lower down to it's left)

The lower southern slopes of Kirk Fell and Great Gable over Stand Crag.

From the bottom of Skew Gill I took a direct route down towards Spouthead Gill.

Spouthead Gill.

RAF Rescue helicopter over The Napes (lower down I met the Wasdale Head Mountain Rescue team heading up).

Above Wainwright's 'a beautiful watersmeet'.

'A beautiful watersmeet'

The view looking down ain’t bad.

Wasdale Head.

The Napes and Little Hell Gate.

Lingmell Beck, Illgill Head and Wast Water.

Bell Rib - Yewbarrow.

Lingmell and the Scafells over Wast Water.

Lingmell's summit remains obscured.

Britain's Favourite View……………………and one of mine.
