From the parking area at Surrender Bridge there is a view of the old Surrender Mill smelt house…………………more of that later.

 

Looking up Mill Gill or Old Gang Beck from the start of the walk at Surrender Bridge.

 

There is a mile of easy walking  before reaching the ruins of the Old Gang lead mine buildings.

 

The ruins here are more extensive than those at Surrender.

 

The chimney is from a furnace where the ore was given a preliminary roasting prior to final smelting.

Looking back along the track from the top of Great Pinseat - there are several groups of grouse butts  on the hillside.

 

The ruins of Surrender Mill smelt house stands on a broad shelf above the stream.
