Route Map

The confluence of Grains Gill Beck and Carlingill Beck.

Wheatear.

From Carlingill Bridge there is a mile of easy walking alongside Carlingill Beck - here looking back to Blease Fell.

The foot of Small Gill - opposite here the track crosses over to the north side of Carlin Gill.

The thin track (above the tree line) can just be seen in the right of

this picture - it avoids having to negotiate the rocky bed of the beck.

Black Force.

Looking up Black Force.

Percy on the alert.

The route continues up the narrow cleft where the path

swaps sides to pick the best way up towards The Spout.

Looking back to Blake Ridge.

The Spout - a 10m fall that blocks the head of the gorge.

The only escape involves a short but easy scramble to the left (see climbers above).

The top of Carlin Gill - the sides are as steep as they look.

Another look down from a position just above The Spout.

Blakethwaite Bottom.

Great Ulgill Beck the Breaks Head / Fell Head ridge above.
